Rio: Movie capital of the world!
Created by the merger of the Mostra Banco Nactional (National Bank Show) and the Rio Cine (Film) Festival, the 19th edition of the Rio Festival comes to the city October 5-15, bringing hundreds of titles from more than 60 countries. Considered the largest film festival in Latin America and celebrated as one of the most important in the world, the Festival annually presents more than 300 films from various nationalities while highlighting recent Brazilian and Latin American productions, making it a required destination for the segment’s main highlights of the year. In addition to more traditional shows such as Panorama, Expectativa, Première Brasil – split into five shows with 16 categories competing for the Troféu Redentor (Christ the Redeemer Trophy) – among others, this year the event will have a selection of special clips, as well as Mostra Geração (Generation Show), aimed at productions made by children and teens. Some of the top names in film have already appeared at the festival such as Roman Polanski, Masahiro Kobayashi, João Pedro Rodrigues, François Ozon and many others.
During the festival the public will be able to keep up on the top news about the participating films and countries and also the complete schedule at the official event website. Concurrently with screening rooms and tents, the film industry will meet again at RioMarket, the Rio Festival’s business area and the largest audiovisual trade show in Latin America, that takes place October 9-14. Executives, directors, technicians and screenwriters will negotiate future productions and discuss the development, production and marketing of new films, from the initial idea through to exhibition. Workshops, seminars, business roundtables and discussions about the current audiovisual market and expectations for the segment’s future are also scheduled.
