LOVE STORY, the musical, opens its new season on the Teatro Fashion Mall, after a two-month run in the Imperator, in Méier, where it had its national debut.
In 2010, Love Story, declared by the American Film Institute to be one of the most iconic love stories of all times, was adapted to the theaters in the form of a musical play written by Stephen Clark and Howard Goodall. The Brazilian production of the play, adapted by Artur Xexéo with musical direction by Liliane Secco and general direction by Tadeu Aguiar, is to have a cast 100% made up of black actors and actress – also marking the first time it happens in a play that does not deal with themes specific to African-Brazilian identity and in which the actors are not all part of the same company.
The play tells the story of Oliver Barret IV, a law student at Harvard, and Jennifer Cavilleri, a music student in Radcliffe, a less prestigious university than the one attended by Oliver. He comes from a rich family and she is poor. He practices sports and she plays piano. But both fall madly in love with each other. His family is against their union and disowns Ollie, who chose to marry Jenny regardless of this – and they both live happily until a discovery radically changes their destiny.
Love Story, the musical was made possible by the Ministry of Culture, through the Rouanet Law, and by the State of Rio de Janeiro and the State Secretariat of Culture through the State Law for the Cultural Incentive. It is sponsored by Caixa Seguradora, Net, Claro and Multiterminais, and produced by Estamos Aqui Produções Artísticas.
