The Dona Maria’s Bar, which actually is called Coffee Bar and is one of the 40 listed by the City Hall.
The bar is in Tijuca, one of the most traditional middle-class neighborhoods in the North Zone, and now is undergoing a revitalization. Opened in 1947 in a 30 years-old bulding, was purchased in 1960 by Dona Maria and her husband, José Catarino, and still preserves the atmosphere of that time. Details such as the counter in granite and marble, wooden tables and shelves, objects and photos from the past on the walls, in addition to the excellent service, the special make, taking visitors on a journey back to the past. The recipes that brought from Portugal are popular among the regulars of the place, most residents of the neighborhood that, especially on Saturdays, crowd the sidewalk to eat cod and shrimp risotto.
