The charming neighborhood of Santa Teresa was chosen by the AccorHotels group to house the first unit of the Mama Shelter hotel chain in Latin America. The chain is already present in five cities: Bordeaux, Los Angeles, Lyon, Marseille and Paris
Mama Shelter Rio follows the same concept of the chain: to offer a stylish urban haven where all guests are received with Mama’s comfort and care. There are 55 suites that follow the same design standard and only differ from each other in size (small, medium, large and extra large). The suites offer cable TV and a desk for working, but no room service. The hotel’s proposal is for the guest to leave the room to enjoy themselves and interact with cariocas and locals in the hotel’s common areas, like a bar and a restaurant – that are open to the public and offer communal tables -, an open air lounge and a weekly programme of live concerts and DJs.
The bar and restaurant of Mama Shelter incorporate the culture of Rio de Janeiro and the contemporary Brazilian cuisine. You can order from the bar drinks such as the traditional “caipirinha” (sugar cane spirits with fruit juice and sugar). The kitchen, commanded by the chef Fausto Rangel, makes pizzas, burgers, salads, pastas and meats, as well as other dishes that can be shared with the family. The environment, designed by Jalil Amor, brings a breath of modern air with works from visual artists who either live or have ateliers nearby; highlights include the panel and chandelier designed by Jambeiro and Zemog, respectively. A concept store offers amenities of the hotel’s brand and local handicraft.
