Today, the Fortress keeps cartographic documents of our country.
It was built in 1713 on the top of Morro da Conceição due to its vantage point in a high place of the city next to Guanabara Bay. Five years after it was open, it already had the biggest weapon power of the region. With the recent renovation of the city’s port region, next to the center of the city, it returned to attract a large number of people interested in its history, especially the chapel and the engines where the leaders of the Inconfiência Mineira movement were arrested. The view of Guanabara Bay and the Port are another great attraction.
