Built in 1912 as the Palácio dos Correios e Telégrafos (Palace of the Post Service and the Telegraph), the building reopened recently and features exhibition rooms, communal spaces and a projection room.
First opened in 1914, the building housed the headquarters of the Diretoria Regional dos Correios do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (Regional Board of the Post Service of the State of Rio de Janeiro), and remained closed from 2007 to 2014 for renovations. The space reopened in the year of its centennial anniversary after a complete remodeling of the building’s structure, which included renovations on the façade and in some internal environments. On the first floor, the Espaço Cultural dos Correios has two rooms to host exhibitions and a room for workshops. On the second floor, there are four additional exhibition rooms, a historical room and an auditorium that can be used for seminars as well as musical and audiovisual events.
