The oldest zoo in the country, RioZoo is located in Parque Quinta da Boa Vista (park), location of the former residence of the Portuguese Imperial Family, in the heart of São Cristóvão.

RioZoo has a total area of 55 thousand square meters and around 1,300 species of animals, among birds, primates, reptiles, fish and felines, with a pair of lions that came from the Pomerode Zoo in Santa Catarina are the new stars of this new era of RioZoo. Among the new attractions is the Play Zone, a space with a variety of toys, climbing walls and a zipline; as well as a second, free-of-charge recreation area complete with a remodeled anti-stress garden.

Another popular spot is the Fazendinha (Little Farm) in which children can interact with the animals, bottle feed goats, feed cows and bunnies as well as  ride a pony and learn more about Brazilian fauna. The nursery is also open for visitation, so that the public can interact with and find out how they treat the little animals that are born in RioZoo.

To sate your hunger after viewing the animals, try the new food court, which offers a variety of foodtrucks.

Tickets:R$ 15. Half-priced admission of R$7.50 for children, teenagers between 3 and 17 years of age, students, elders and people with disabilities. Free admission for children under 3 years old.
